ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DHUL HIJJAH

In these first 10 days of the Month of Dhul Hijjah we find

...the 9th day is the day of Arafah

...and the 10th day is Eid

Wed Nov 18th 2009 is the first Dhul Hijjah

Hence, Arafah will be Thu 26th Nov 2009

Surah Al-Fajr (The Break of Day or the Dawn) 

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

By the dawn, By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah), And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). And by the night when it departs, There are indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs)."

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas RA:

The Prophet SAWS said, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah)." Then some Companions of the Prophet SAWS said, "Not even Jihad?" He replied, "Not even Jihad, except of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allah's sake, i.e. with his life and property), and does not return with anyof those things (i.e. is martyred)." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 2/969 (O.P.86)]


According to the Prophet, sal Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam,
"There is no day more honorable in Allah's sight and no acts more beloved therein to Allah than those in these ten days (of Dhul-Hijjah)"


Even if you are not traveling for Hajj, you can still put in extra effort to do more good deeds.

1. Fasting these 10 days
2. Giving more charity during these 10 days
3. Say the "Eid" Takbeers loudly wherever you go. (Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Laa ilaaha illa Allah. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Walillaahil hamd.)
4. Try to pray more prayers in the Masjid
5. Increase ties of kinship (visit family, say kind words to them, etc.)
6. Perform more voluntary prayers at home
7. Read more Quran, contemplating the meanings
8. Do more Dhikr
9. Ask for forgiveness more frequently

The Miracle of Ants in the Quran

Allah mentions in the Quran,

Surah - 27 The Ant (Al-Naml)

Mobilized in the service of Solomon were his obedient soldiers of jinns and humans, as well as the birds; all at his disposal.

When they approached the valley of the ants, one ant said, "O you ants, go into your homes, lest you get crushed by Solomon and his soldiers, without perceiving."

He smiled and laughed at her statement, and said, "My Lord, direct me to be appreciative of the blessings You have bestowed upon me and my parents, and to do the righteous works that please You. Admit me by Your mercy into the company of Your righteous servants."

[27:17-19]

Read this yesterday in Islamic Creed Series: Belief in Allah 

I was told about an ant which came out of its home and found part of a locust's body. It tried to carry it but was not able to, so it went and brought others to help carry it. I (the person who told this story) picked it up, and the ant walked around in the place where it had been, and did not find it. The other ants went away and left the first ant. Then I put the locust down, and the ant tried to carry it and could not, so she went to bring others back. I picked it up, and the ant walked around in the place where it had been, and did not find it, so the others went away. I did this several times, and the last time I did it, the ants made a circle around the first ant and tore it apart. I told this story to our shaykh and he said: Allah has created these ants in such a way that they hate lies and punish liars.

That to me is MIND BLOWING subhanAllah !

For those of you who know me personally, I hope you remember me telling you (more like whining and complaining) about the recent ant infestation I had in my apartment.  But wallahi, after reading this passage in the Islamic Creed Series book I have so much more respect for those ants ! This was just one of the many passages that talked about the miraculous nature of ants ... grab the book and read more for yourself !

Towards Understanding Surah Yusuf by Yasir Qadhi

My husband and I were HUGE fans of superman. So I remember, in our days of jahaaliyah, we would eagerly await the next episode of Smallville or Lois and Clark. After coming to Islam and developing a love for knowledge, alhumdulilah, we gave up on watching superman because it felt like a waste of time and after losing out on 20 years of Islam...you really cant afford to waste anymore time. So we started watching online Islamic videos and when this series "Towards Understanding Surah Yusuf" came out we were elated ! The youtube user would release 5 episodes at a time and we would once again eagerly await the next episodes ... but this time for tafsir of surah yusuf and wallahi this story and this series was better than any superman series I ever watched. So I am attaching all of the videos below and I pray that you will benefit from them inshAllah.
